FAQ
Does Frall Foods Deliver?
What’s the difference between Frall Foods and the next CSA management company?
- No. For the commitment to sustainability, it is not viable for the environment for us to deliver. If your workplace or group of friends want a bulk drop off, please inquire!
What’s the difference between Frall Foods and the next CSA management company?
- After every CSA, all of our leftover produce is donated to various social programs around the GTA. To date, we have donated over $3500 of local organic food to provide over 1000 free meals.
- ALL of the veggies at our CSA's are 100% Ontario sourced.
- Our eggs are ALWAYS certified by a registered Ontario Egg grader. These babies are Canada Grade A!
- In order to be fully sustainable, all of our labour is PAID! Also, following a method of transparency, when anyone wishes to see or volunteer on the farm, they are more than welcome!
- Our hens are pasture raised with 100% organic feed.
How can Frall Foods compare to the Grocery Store?
- What we've tried to do at Frall Foods is mimic your weekly grocery stop with a CSA pickup. It’s easy. Just sign up, bring your recyclable bags, and come to the closest stand!
Is your food organic?
- Yes. All of the food we distribute through our CSA network is organic. The produce will not always be certified organic, but is grown organically.
How long is the Frall Foods CSA season?
- 21 weeks. Beginning June 6, 2016, and ending October 25th, 2016.
How It Works
Most people have heard of some sort of box program. CSA programs, which they are referred to more commonly, usually require people to purchase a share in a farm, and in exchange receive a weekly bag/box of produce while sharing in the risks of the growing season. Amazing Concept. First invented in Germany at the beginning of the 20th century then brought to North America, there are currently 5,000 CSA's in Canada and it continues to grow yearly.
The Frall Foods Difference
Our CSA program varies just slightly. Customers still pay us a subscription fee and receive food on a weekly basis. Yet, rather than opening your door to a box of veggies and fruit, we ask that everyone pick up their food, bringing your re-usable bags.
Over at Frall Foods, we love grocery shopping. Who doesn't? So we try to replicate your weekly grocery visit at the CSA pickup. Our food is always out on the table for you to pick and choose which ones will look best in your dish; allotments for how much to take are always displayed on our hanging chalkboard; and the sign-in sheet will never let you forget how much delicious food you’ll be going home with.
Our CSA tables try to build a sense of community and discussion among customers as they come to pick up their food. Great recipe ideas and preserving techniques are just some of the secrets customers divulge when they are at our tables. Our tables also make great trading hubs for seeds among customers and a place to show off the fruits of your own labour!
Not going to make it one week? No sweat, each of our pick-up locations works with a donation partner who ensures that all of the food left over is prepared by volunteers and given away for free to various city food programs.
What You're Getting
Each week customers are greeted by smiles and a minimum of 7 different local, organic fresh veggies. All the produce is out on display with the allotments listed neatly on a chalkboard for you to read as you browse the week’s selection.
New this year will be the addition of more fresh fruit and eggs (we try our hardest but Mother Nature is the Boss!). Fruit will be included in CSA shares once the fruit season begins, and eggs will be sold on a weekly basis.
Later in the season, we will slowly see the introduction of more locally sourced Ontario Prepared foods.
